During July 2018 we were commissioned by our long-standing client MAN Automotive (South Africa), to create images for them of a custom built bus. The brief included fine art images of specific design elements on the bus, such as the mirrors, badge and lights, but also conventional hero shots on a white background, for brochures.
“MAN Lion’s Explorer – The pride of MAN”
This particular brief immediately set two challenges
- the sheer size of the bus, and in particular the lenght of the bus
- we had to photograph the bus in the hanger where it was being built
This is a big bus! How would we light it?
We knew that using the FDL-technique and our custom-built modifiers, would allow us to make the required fine art images of the design detail, and a stepladder would get us high enough to reach the top of the bus. The FDL-technique would also help us manage the reflections of the workshop area in the bright red paintwork of the bus.
A Custom made 1,8m lomg light wand was used to light paint on location
